Coffin Nail History & Facts. Long ago, before the days of metal caskets and burial vaults, people were buried in simple wooden boxes, mostly made of pine. These coffins were cheap and easy to make. Thin boards about 3/4″ thick were nailed together in a standard pattern with a hinged lid and either rope or other rudimentary handles.Coffin Nails. The Coffin Nails were originally formed in the second half of1985 by Toby "Juggy " Griffin(d), Graham " Gra " Farr(b),Tony Szajer(v) and Steve(g/v), who's also better known as Humungus. After just amonth of rehearsals the band supported the Sting-raysin Reading, which is alsoknown as the hometown of the Coffin Nails.
